It’s Monday! Are we ready to face it? I’m sure we’ll get through it – we always do, right? Yesterday was pretty busy for us, and I feel it was quite productive! We let the house at 8:15 and didn’t get home until around 6:30 in the evening, and let me tell you, I was TIRED! We did so much though! We sold some tires and wheels, went out to breakfast, bought a fridge, had lunch with my daughter at Debbie Macomber’s Victorian Tea House in Port Orchard, browsed the gift shop there and got a couple of gifts. We then headed downtown to browse a couple of antique shops, visit some more at the restaurant where my daughter works, then headed to a really fun Christmas shop at a local nursery. After a quick stop at Home Depot, and a NOT so quick stop at Walmart, we picked up dinner and headed home. The fun wasn’t over though! There were some things to do at home before we could sit down and enjoy a cup of cocoa while propping our feet up. Whew! What a day, right? Below is a picture of the outside of the Tea House. I took some of the inside, but I couldn’t seem to get a good one without people in the shot, and I don’t feel it’s right to take pictures of people and post them without their permission.
Electronic Greeting Card Day – Today is the day to send e-cards to everyone you know! Many people love to send and receive them since they are fun, and many of them are free . . . a combination that fits every single budget. Of course, the drawback to sending the free e-cardes is that you have to deal with a lot of pop-up ads, but they support the sits, which makes it possible for them to be free. Hop onto an e-card site and send a few animated cards to some folks today – let them know you are thinking of them. Now, to me this isn’t as fun as a real card in the mail, but at the rate that postage is increasing, and how expensive cards have gotten, I completely understand why so few people actually send them anymore.
National Unfriend Day – This one makes me laugh. It was inspired by late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. This is the day when Facebook users should bake an honest inventory of their friends list and eliminate the ones that really aren’t their friends. Making these cuts simplifies your timeline and frees up your time to give to the ones you really want to hear from! Win win! You never know – they may have been wanting to knock you off of their list too, but they just weren’t sure how to go about it! It could be saving two of you all sorts of irritation just to take the bull by the horns and do it! This photo is one that we took on one of our 2012 hiking trips in the Olympic Mountains. Such a beautiful view!
Take a Hike Day – We all know that walking and hiking is a great way to get exercise and get in shape. It’s unfortunate that this one lands on a Monday, isn’t it? So, what’s the difference between a walk and a hike? Well, a walk can be taken anywhere, while hike is taking in the woods, hills, mountains or somewhere else in nature setting. You get the exercise from a hike, but you also get beautiful scenery that are relaxing to the mind and the soul. I haven’t been on a hike for a couple of years – this silly foot issue I’ve been having messed up this year and last year I was dealing with another health issue that kept us home. NEXT year though, I’m really hoping to hit the trails and have some fun!
Food Celebration of the Day –
National Homemade Bread Day – Is there anything that smells quite so amazing as the aroma of freshly baked bread? It just epitomizes the hearth and home feeling, giving us a feeling well-being and comfort. Bread has been made for thousands of years, with estimates dating it back to 5,000-10,000 B.C. Our busy lifestyles have pretty much relegated homemade bread to special times and holidays, and we run to bakeries and grocery stores for most of our bread instead. Many people have rediscovered a love of home baked bread with the new bread machines, and many of us just bake bread because it’s better for us to do it ourselves. Today we are encouraged to bake fresh, tasty and nutritious bread. Yum!
