There Are Some Celebrations I Choose Not To Celebrate . . . And Today Has One Of Those . . .

Apr 14th

What a wonderful weekend!  Wasn’t it?  The sun was shining and the sky blue for the entire weekend and I can’t even begin to tell you how wonderful it was.  Yesterday hubby grilled the first burgers outside, and we had a little bonfire.  There’s something slightly addictive about the aroma of campfire smoke, isn’t there?  It was so nice to sit outside, eat good food, talk around the fire and just relax! Did I get everything done that I’d planned on getting done this weekend? Not even close!  I did actually lay in the sun for a little bit, bathed the dog (oh, if you could only have seen the stink eye I got over THAT one since the bath was outside with the hose -but she had the warm sun to dry off in, and survived just fine), and just took some time to enjoy the beautiful weather. The grass is still too long, the weeds aren’t pulled . . . and I can’t bring myself to care.  It was too wonderful to just relax with my hubby and enjoy the beautiful weekend.

Holy Humor Month – Joke of the Day

Money Goes To Church – A well-worn one dollar bill and a similarly distressed twenty dollar bill arrived at a Federal Reserve Bank to be retired. As they moved along the conveyor belt to be burned, they struck up a conversation.  The twenty dollar bill reminisced about its travels all over the county. “I’ve had a pretty good life,” the twenty proclaimed. “Why I’ve been to Las Vegas and Atlantic City, the finest restaurants in New York, performances on Broadway, and even a cruise to the Caribbean.”  “Wow!” said the one dollar bill. “You’ve really had an exciting life!”  “So tell me,” says the twenty, “where have you been throughout your lifetime?”  The one dollar bill replies, “Oh, I’ve been to the Methodist Church, the Baptist Church, the Lutheran Church ….”    The twenty dollar bill interrupts, “What’s a church?”

Ex Spouse Day – Whoever came up with this one simply had to be kidding, right?  I know that I, for one, would prefer NOT to recognize my ex, much less honor or celebrate him in any way.  Because of that I want to just give you a reminder that I report what the days are but I certainly don’t create them.  If I did, well, this one would NOT exist.  With my disdain well known for MY ex, I am perpetually surprised when hear about people who do get along with their ex’s and have better relationships with them after the divorce than they did while they were married.  What shocks me even more than THAT is people who get divorced, get re-married to someone new, then they socialize with the ex and THEIR new significant other.   Blows my mind. Completely.  I’ll personally skip celebrating this one, but if any of you are actually friends with your ex’s and want to celebrate it, please let me know, OK?  I would genuinely like to know.  (I couldn’t even find a picture I wanted to add to this one!)

International Moment of Laughter Day –  Laughter is the best medicine, right? At least that’s what “they” say, and honestly any of us who have ever had a tummy wrenching, eyes streaming with tears, the face hurts from smiling, laugh knows that it’s true!  It’s one of the best and happiest feelings in the world!  Today laugh!  Say funny things, tell jokes, whatever you can to make people laugh.  Smiling isn’t enough – the goal is out and out laughter.  You can do it!  It’s worth the good feelings to make it happen.

Look Up at the Sky Day – Do you ever just look up?  You may miss something awesome if you just look straight ahead of down all the time.  You may miss an eclipse, a beautiful eagle flying overhead, the clouds could be making something spectacular, perhaps a rainbow will be up there! Besides, don’t you ever watch the movies?  It’s the people who never look up who miss the scary stuff hiding in the trees! Always check out all directions – especially UP!

Pecan Day – Pecans are my favorite nut to bake with and honestly I love just grabbing a few to munch on when I need a little protein too. I completely understand why someone would decide to set up a special day for this very versatile bit of deliciousness.  The Pecan tree is the ONLY nut tree native to North America.  That alone is pretty a pretty wonderful thing to celebrate.

Reach as High as You Can Day – Today expand your horizons . . . when you realize that there are no limitations beyond what you put on yourself, you can literally reach for the sky!  If there something you have wanted to do that is beyond your reach? A new job? A date with someone special?  Maybe that business you’ve been wanting to start and there never seems to be a good time.  This is it!  You won’t know until you try!  So, today, Reach as High As You Can!  You may even go beyond your goals and expectations.
