The Wonderful Month of March – Are You Ready to Celebrate?

Mar 1st

Happy 1st Day of March!  Ah, March 1st, this is a wonderful month, for the very simple reason that this is my daughter’s birthday.  29 years ago today my 1st born child entered the world and life has not been the same since.   For anyone who knows her, they know that she has a spark, an energy and has enough attitude to intrigue, irritate and endear her way into hearts and minds.  Her strength and determination (i.e. stubborn will), combined with those dimples, blue eyes and caustic wit and humor, make her a force of nature brought here by God to liven things up.   Happy Birthday my beautiful girl – the world is a better place because you are in it.

There is a LOT of celebrating to do this month.  Because there are a lot of monthly celebrations, some weekly celebrations, and of course all the daily Celebrations, what I am going to do is list what they are today, do the daily observances, then each day this month I’ll elaborate on the monthly and weekly ones.  There’s just too much going on to cover it all right now – hope that’s OK with everyone.

Did you know?  March was named for the Roman god “Mars”

The moment you’ve been waiting for – the celebrations for today – March 1st . . .

Employee Appreciation Day – This day honors employees everywhere, and that’s a good thing to appreciate because bosses can’t be bosses without employees . . . so we SHOULD be appreciated!  Any celebrations today should be created and carried out by the company you work for – and recognitions vary widely depending on the company and involvement of the employer, and may include a lunch, snack, cakes, or other munchies, and small recognition gifts.  Don’t expect a day off though, because chances are it just won’t happen.  It makes me wonder though, if Employee’s Day and Bosses Day being six months apart is a coincidence or a plan?  Everybody deserves to feel appreciated, so I hope for everyone here who works, that you are shown that appreciation by your boss – not just today, but every day.

National Pig Day – Oink oink!!  This is a day that recognizes and gives thanks to domesticated pigs.  For some reason that is not known, big pot-bellied pigs seen in zoos are often the symbol of the day.  Pigs are clever and intelligent animals, often compared to elephants or chimpanzees, and said to be even more intelligent than dogs.  They can be taught to do tricks, be house broken, and some people even keep them as pets.  Today is a day to give pigs the respect that they deserve.  National Pig Day is celebrated by zoos too! Activities include Snort Offs, Pig Outs and online Pig Chats (not sure what exactly that is).  I recently saw an episode of Too Cute on Animal Planet that featured a litter of baby miniature pot belly pigs.  Oh my goodness, they are soooo adorable that I wanted one immediately!  The color of the day – of course – is pink!

National Salesperson Day –  This day was established to recognize the value of the truly professional salesperson, and all their hard work. A sales person is any one of the following examples:

  • Register clerks at the grocery store
  • Clerks at your convenience store
  • Door to door sales people
  • Car salesman
  • Life Insurance agents
  • Mortgage brokers and loan officers
  • Traveling salesman
  • Manufacturer’s reps
  •                                                                           The list goes on and on

To celebrate the day, offer thanks and appreciation to the sales people who serve you today.

National Peanut Butter Lover’s Day –  Today is a sticky celebration as we salute America’s favorite sandwich spread. What kid didn’t grow up loving a PB&J sandwich? It’s a staple in many people’s houses. Smooth Peanut Butter is by far the most popular, but crunchy peanut butter is also enjoyed by many. Peanut Butter is not limited to a Peanut Butter and Jelly (PB&J) sandwich. It’s popular on crackers, celery and other “peanut butter” holders. It is also used in recipes for cookies and snacks. And, don’t forget peanut butter candies, too! Did you Know? Peanut Butter is 90% or more peanuts. It has no artificial preservatives but even so an opened jar is stored on a shelf at room temperature. Celebrate today with a little (or a lot) of Peanut Butter.  If you don’t get enough peanut butter today, April 2nd is National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day. and September 13th is National Peanut Day.  There are actually several more Peanut holidays than that throughout the year, so plenty of opportunities to celebrate this lovely food are ahead!

What a month we have in store for us! I will do my best to keep us all informed about how we can put to good use the imaginations of the people who put all of these holidays in motion for us.  For today though, have some peanut butter, appreciate a cute little piggy, say thanks to a salesperson, and if you’re a boss, please give a bit of thanks to those who work for you.  It’s nice to hear it from the people we work with now and again.  God bless you and have a wonderful day!
