SMOOCH! Today is World Kissing Day!

Jul 6th

I did something COMPLETELY out of my normal routine yesterday.  I did absolutely NOTHING! I know! It’s weird!  Part of me feels completely, horrifyingly lazy – but another part feels like I really needed the down time.  Yes, it will make today busier as I get things ready for the week, but it was worth it . . . very, very worth it.  I may not have celebrated the daily celebrations, but I did let my body and mind rest after being on the run for so many days without feeling like I’ve had a break.

Build a Scarecrow Day –  Scarecrows are built to stand out in the garden and scare crows and other birds away.  We are used to seeing them in the fall, but it stands to reason that we’d like them all set up while the garden is in full swing so that it makes it to harvest without all of the critters getting to it.  I’ve often wondered how the scarecrow does its job effectively.  Birds are pretty smart – at first they’ll think it’s a person standing in the garden and stay away, but after that scarecrow doesn’t move for awhile they’ll get the hint that he’s not a real threat, and they’ll start ignoring him.  You can be fairly sure that when you start seeing birds sitting on your scarecrow that the bird is no longer fooled.  Maybe move the scarecrow around the garden and put it in different places?  Now an animated scarecrow would do the trick, but I’m betting that it would be awfully expensive.   I always think of The Wizard of Oz when I think of Scarecrows.  Wouldn’t you think that that would be the most famous scarecrow of all?

International Kissing Day or World Kiss Day – Kissing is nice.  There are all sorts of kisses, and today we celebrate them all.  From the sweet and innocent kiss of a child to his or her parent’s cheek, to the passionate kisses of people wildly in love – there are many different types of kisses that vary widely depending on culture.  A kiss may be used to express love, passion, affection, respect, greeting, friendship, good luck and much more.

This Day In History

1933 – In the very first All Star Baseball game, the American League wins 5-2.

Food Celebration of the Day

National Fried Chicken Day –  Fried Chicken to me always means time for a picnic.  It makes me feel a little nostalgic whenever I smell it frying.  When we’d go on a road trip to the beach Mom would always fry up a batch of chicken the night before, since it’s also good cold, cut up a bunch of fruit, grab some crackers and chips, and we’d head out. The first thing I’d grab to eat would be a thigh.  There was just something about the spices she used on it that were so good!  The best known fried chicken in the U.S. would be Southern Fried Chicken.  Many people may not know that nearly every cuisine has its own take on fried chicken.  Here are some example to try:

As our weekend comes to a close, long though it may have been, it still feels like it went by so quickly.  Can we just start it all over again . . . weekend instant replay?  Be nice, wouldn’t it?  Sadly we cannot, so enjoy today with everything in you, for tomorrow we work again.  God Bless You and I’ll see you tomorrow!
