Moms – Be Lazy Today! You Deserve It!

Sep 6th

Doing the Friday Dance! WOOHOO!  Short weeks mean we make it to the weekend quickly, and that’s never a bad thing.  Well, except maybe for the people who have to work on the weekends.  But I don’t, so I’m doing the dance!

Just a quick thought on yesterday . . . isn’t God wonderful?  All morning long we had dark skies, pouring rain, some wind, lightening and thunder!  It was predicted that it would get worse right about the time the wedding I was officiating was starting.  I felt horrible for the bride and groom, and everyone with them who would end up getting soaked after the ceremony.  I know that everyone involved was saying a prayer for a break in the rain, including me.   Sure enough, the rain stopped, but it was still cloudy.  Just as I pulled into the church parking lot I saw the clouds begin to part and move away, and the sun started shining.  It was like God was smiling down on this young couple as they set out to begin their lives together.  The ceremony went off without a hitch, there were happy tears (thankfully there is waterproof mascara!), and a newly married couple is starting their life together.  There are days that just make me feel like smiling, and yesterday was one of them.

Fight Procrastination Day is today. I had to chuckle at this one since yesterday was FOR procrastinators, and now today they are saying to fight procrastination!  I guess whoever set these up figured it was not a good idea to let putting things off become a habit.  So, today they call everyone to action, make the day a day to get things done!  It’s a day to get things done, a call to action.  It’s always nice to step back from seeing a project through to completion and just look at how wonderful it is to have it be finished!  I have one of those projects this weekend.  I’ve been procrastinating  on it for weeks, but we have company coming NEXT weekend and it really  needs to be finished before then.  Three cheers for getting stuff done!

Read a Book Day –  We are getting into the perfect time of year for reading a good book.  There’s nothing quite like having the house all clean, something that smells of yeast or cinnamon baking in the oven, and curl up in the corner of the couch, sip at a cup of tea and get lost in a good book.  Reading takes us places we may never go in real life, into a world built in our imaginations.  Doing it this time of year just makes it extra special because it is cozy.  I have a struggle getting cozy in the summer, too hot and sticky.  Today take some time out of your busy life, and curl up with a good book.  If you happen to doze off while you’re reading, go with it.  Nobody else needs to know.

National Lazy Mom’s Day – This one has me scratching my head because the words “lazy” and “Mom” don’t generally fit well into the same sentence.  Sure, there must be some lazy mom’s out there but most just have too much going on for that to happen!  However, from what I can tell this is not a day celebrating lazy mothers, but a day during which mother’s are able to take what is usually a busy day and be lazy. One single day of doing absolutely nothing.  No laundry, no dishes, no cooking . . . just channel surfing, chatting with friends, reading a book, lazing in the tub . . . whatever do-nothing thing strikes our fancy.  If you have a family that is on board with this holiday, maybe they’ll do all of those things for you . . . if not, well, you’ll have to crack the whip tomorrow to make them help you catch up.  For right now though?  Just be lazy!

This Day In History

1995 – Cal Ripken Jr. broke Lou Gehrig’s baseball iron man record by playing in his 2,131st game.

Food Holiday of the Day

National Coffee Ice Cream Day – The person who created this ice cream flavor is a genius.  Seriously!  Creamy, sweet ice cream mixed with coffee and if you’re fortunate chocolate!  Yum, you get your caffeine in a sweet treat!  Here are some ideas to enjoy . . . yum!

What a fun day of celebrations!  We get to be lazy – but only if we are moms of course – while reading books and eating coffee ice cream!  I’m sure we can ignore the conflict between being lazy and not procrastinating for just one day.  God Bless You, have a wonderful Friday, and I’ll see you tomorrow!
