Holy Saturday – In Stillness Earth Awaits The Resurrection . . .

Apr 19th

As stress filled as the last two days at work have been for me, I need to remember that is not what this weekend is about.  Those days are over and it is time to focus our hearts and minds on the importance of this weekend.  Yesterday we celebrated Good Friday, the day our Lord sacrificed His life for us, the day God gave His beloved Son for us – though none deserve it.  I’d like you think for a moment, cast your mind back on that Saturday so long ago.  It is the day after Jesus was crucified.  The masses who demanded His death are pretty afraid right about this point, and I’m sure they are doubting that what they’d done was really what they’d wanted.  The family, friends and followers of Christ were in deep mourning, in shock and unsure where to go, or what to do next. I imagine the day was spent in hushed tones, very subdued and sad.  In the very air is the sense of waiting for something to happen, and though what comes next has been prophesied throughout the centuries, they still don’t know what to expect.  They went through the motions of celebrating Sabbath, but I’m sure without the enthusiasm they normally would – not with such a big piece of their lives ripped from them just the day before.  Can you feel it?  Can you feel that hush as we wait on the Lord?

Holy Humor Month – Joke of the Day

Acting Up In Church – One Sunday in a Midwest City, a young child was “acting up” during the morning worship hour. The parents did their best to maintain some sense of order in the pew but were losing the battle.  Finally, the father picked the little fellow up and walked sternly up the aisle on his way out.  Just before reaching the safety of the foyer, the little one called loudly to the congregation, “Pray for me! Pray for me!”

National Garlic Day – I love garlic. In just about everything except a dessert it is wonderful!  I love it roasted and spread on bread, I love it in soups, meats, salads, on bread.  I truly love it.  It’s a miracle herb!  It is used in various cuisines around the world, and have been used medicinally for thousands of years.  It is also believed to ward off evil spirits.  The only BAD thing you can say about it is that it does have a bit of an aroma after you’ve eaten it.  For me, I can just hold raw garlic in my hand and I can immediately taste it in my mouth – it absorbs that quickly and completely to my system.  Sad thing is, the day AFTER I eat garlic I can still smell it on my skin.  Sad really, since this is otherwise such an amazing and delicious food.  Here are some amazing things about garlic – the phytochemicals that are in garlic are believed to provide protection against heart disease and cancer – most specifically stomach and colorectal cancers.  It helps to fight off colds and flu, lowers blood cholesterol levels, reduces the buildup of plaque in arteries, is used as a treatment for acne and warts and used for toothaches.  I know in our house we mix it with fresh horseradish and cayenne pepper for a remedy for upper respiratory infections – works INCREDIBLY well!  When my daughter was growing up we also used garlic juice to kill a build of candida in her system, and used homemade garlic oil for her ear infections.  Yes, my child was aromatic, but the it worked better than the antibiotics that she’d developed an immunity to over time.  Celebrate this one by using it heavily in your meals and snacks today. Research how you can use it in your home for its medical benefits.  One thing I found out that I thought was pretty interesting is that there is an actual phobia called Alliumphobia – people with this phobia are literally afraid of garlic! They fear anything with garlic in it – though it isn’t clear whether it is the smell or the flavor they fear – could be either, depending on the individual.  This makes eating out very difficult for them since so many restaurants prepare their entrees with garlic in them.  Interesting!  It’s sad because they are really missing out!

Husband Appreciation Day – There are days for pretty much everyone.  There is Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Secretary’s Day, Grandparent’s Day .  . . the list goes on and on and on.  Well, today we appreciate husbands!  I know that mine definitely deserves it.  I’m not sure what to say here that won’t cause him embarrassment, so I will just say, Honey, I love you and you make me incredibly happy.  You have accepted my children as if they were your own, and even though you didn’t meet them until they were already young adults, you have helped to guide them and have given them the reassurance that you are there for them, no matter what.  Ladies, please show your husband some appreciation today.  Make his favorite meal, let him pick tonight’s movie.  If he wants to go fishing, or just sit in his easy chair channel surfing – that’s OK.  This is his day and he deserves it.
