There’s just something about a summer sprinkle, isn’t there? It has that unique smell that you only get with rain on a warm summer day. And the music it makes in the trees! Wonderful. It even inspired the frogs to come out to sing last night. All together, it makes me feel content. In this topsy turvy world, sometimes that’s enough, isn’t it? Feeling content? I know for me it is – it’s like taking in a big breath, and just enjoying the fresh air.
Relaxation Day – this one would be nice to have on a weekend! Today is supposed to be a day to kick back and do nothing . . . . I think I have to take a rain check on this one for Saturday! But for anyone who CAN celebrate this one today, more power to you! The stresses, hustle and bustle we all seem to be consumed with every day of the year just exhaust us! Even Sundays aren’t reserved for rest and relaxation any more. So, when do we just stop and take a breath from the craziness? Today, if you are able, is the day to spend doing whatever you want to just break free of everything that overloads your system with stress, so the rule of the day? Avoid all stress causing activities! Here are the Ten Top Ideas for enjoying Relaxation Day:
- Do nothing today
- Go to a Spa
- Go fishing
- Play a round of golf(caution: not always relaxing)
- Lounge around in a hammock
- Take a bubble bath
- Spend the day at the beach
- Go to the movies
- Do a little gardening (no heavy duty work, though)
- Have a picnic in the park
What art you waiting for? Start relaxing!!!
Chauvin Day – So, I found out that this day was named for a man by the name of Nicholas Chauvin. He was a French soldier from Rochefort, France who idolized Napoleon. He became the subject of ridicule because of his blind loyalty and dedication to anything French. Originally referring to his aggressive patriotism to anything French, chauvinism has come to mean blind or absurdly intense attachment to any cause. This day is observed today on Napoleon’s birthday because nobody knows when Chauvin’s is! My confusion lies in the WHY??? WHY would we celebrate this man and who thought he was special enough to register a specific day?
This Day In History –
1914 – The Panama Canal is opened.
Food Celebration of the Day –
Julia Child’s Birthday – Break out the butter and heavy cream! It’s time to honor Queen Julia with a French-inspired feast for all your loved ones. Now, I’ve never made any of Julia Child’s recipes – but I do have a couple of her old books, and I’ve seen her on classic cooking shows. Julia Childs was such an incredible role model for women chef’s everywhere – in a male dominated world, she took her dream and made it come to pass.

- Julia’s Grated Zucchini Sauteed With Butter & Shallots
- Julia’s Sole Meuniere
- Julia Child’s Herb Biscuits

We’ve made it to Thursday, and for that I am grateful. We are one day closer to a beautiful weekend, where we can enjoy the relaxation we may, because of obligations to duty, have to miss out on today. I know that no matter what this day holds though, it is blessed because all of you are celebrating with me. God Bless You and I’ll see you tomorrow!
