Humor Month – Joke of the Day
Secretary In Training – The boss was very exasperated with his new secretary. She ignored the telephone when it rang. “You must answer the telephone,” he told her irritably. “All right,” she replied, “but it seems so silly. Nine times out of ten, it’s for you!”
Administrative Professionals Day – Today is the day to show appreciation for your administrative staff, and it is set in the middle of an entire week set aside to be showing gratitude for all the hard work they do each and every day. In 1952 Harry F. Klemfuss of Young, Young and Rubicam created Natioanl Professional Secretaries Week and Day. He recognized the importancs and value of the position to any company or business. He had a goal to encourage more women to become secretaries, so using his skill and experience in public relations, he promoted the values and importance of the job that secretaries do. The title has changed and evolved as the position of secretary has changed – the new terms being Administrative Professional and Executive Administive Professionals. The two names sometimes mean different roles and responsibilities, depending on the company, but both are broader terms that cover more positions than the original role of secretary. Today these positions are filled by both men AND women. Some employers are really great about recognizing and celebrating this day, making their staff feel very special and appreciated. Some give it a token gesture mention, and some ignore it completely. I have worked for all three categories, and can honestly say that having an employer that actually takes the time and makes the effort to do something meaningful this week improves morale, and that results in improved productivity.
Food Celebration of the Day –
Pig In A Blanket Day – If you love sausage and pancakes, well today is the day for you! Why? Well, because pig in a blanket day is the day to take a sausage, wrap it up in a pancake, drizzle it with a little maple syrup and enjoy it! Somebody, somewhere back many centuries thought up the idea of dough or bacon-wrapped sausage bites as a portable lunch for field workers. That idea evolved to what it is today, and someone thought that this was so special that they set up a special day to celebrate it. Here are a few ideas from www.food.com, that expand on this idea a bit and takes it even further!
- Mini Pigs in a Blanket
- Chili Cheese Dogs in a Beach Blanket
- Pigs-in-a-Blanket Lunch
- Cheesy Pigs in a Blanket
- Pretzel Dogs
- Bugs in a Blanket
Well, we were pretty light on holidays today, but that’s ok! I am working on a special project that I’ll let you in on in a couple of days, and need to put a little extra time to that. In the meantime, enjoy some Pigs In A Blanket – and if you are an Administrative Assistant, I hope you are honored in some way today, or at least this week. And if you’re a boss . . . remember, those assistants keep you from having to do all the work yourself! God Bless You! Have a great day and I’ll see you tomorrow!
