Good Morning! Let’s Appreciate Air Travel!

Aug 19th

Monday is behind us!  We survived it!  That seems such a petty thing to being grateful for getting through when you think about the state of the world, doesn’t it?  I guess I should be eternally grateful that the most difficult thing I’ve had to deal with lately has been a Monday morning.  Turning on the news and seeing all the turmoil the world over just makes me so sad!  Looking at Facebook updates and seeing friends who have lost their spouses, friends who are ill, or others who are facing challenges that are so much more life altering than mind – well, it makes me feel like I’m whining about nothing.  I have a wonderful husband, amazing kids and grandkids, parents that are in pretty good health and extended family that I truly love, even if I don’t see them often.  I have a beautiful home, cars that are nice and get me where I’m going dependably, and friends who I can talk to when I need a shoulder to cry on.  Every morning I wake up and know that my job is waiting, where there are more friends to talk to and laugh with!  Yes, I am very fortunate in my life and will stop complaining about Mondays now.  Let’s celebrate our beautiful lives!

National Aviation Day –  Today we celebrate National Aviation Day, which was chosen because it is the birthday of aviator Orville Wright, who was born on August 19, 1871.  The Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur, were forward thinking pioneer aviators in the United States.  Orville was the first person to successfully fly an airplane.  Now I know if that had been me, not knowing if it would actually work or not, I would have been extremely scared.  Makes me wonder how big the butterflies in HIS stomach were on that historic day of December 17, 1903 at Kitty Hawk, NC.  This amazing inaugural flight was to change the skies forever.  I know that none of us today can even imagine life without being able to get from one side of the country to the other in just a few hours.  We are able to do it because of the Wright Brothers!  Can you imagine coming up with something that so profoundly changed the way the entire world travels?  I wonder what they would say if they could see how airplanes are now?

This Day In History
1909 – Indianapolis Speedway holds it’s first auto race.
Food Celebration of the Day
National Potato Day – I love potatoes.  Not just a little.  I love them a LOT.  Now, starches and I don’t get along on a dietary level – as they cause my weight to increase after one tiny serving, but oh my goodness, they taste good.  I don’t care HOW they are fixed, baked, boiled, fried, potato chipped or mashed.  I’ll take them any way I can get them – which may be RARE, but each time I do have some, I enjoy every single bite.  Did you know that Americans eat more potatoes than any other kind of vegetable? On average, each person downs a 1/3 of a pound per day!

Have a beautiful day and for the sake of everyone who doesn’t feel like they have anything to celebrate, do some celebrating in their honor. We all have trials to get through and there are moments that just focusing on the little things are what gets us through. God Bless You and I’ll see you tomorrow!
