It’s Monday again, but somehow Mondays in the summer just aren’t so bad. Know why? Because the sun is already up and it’s easier to get out of bed! It’s tough to get out of bed and on the road when it is still dark out, but somehow the SAME hour of the morning is really much easier to greet when the birds are singing and the sun is already up. Of course, that same sun makes it difficult to go to bed at night, which is why I am starting this at nearly 10 p.m. on Sunday. Sheesh!
National Bubba Day – Do you know anyone named Bubba? I don’t, though it does seem to be a prominent name in the movies for anyone who lives in the country, seems to be big, lumbering, a criminal, or slow. Right? Have you ever seen a character in the movies who was called Bubba who wasn’t? Well, today, if your name is Bubba, this is your day to be honored. A little bit of trivia – Did you know that Bubba is the Yiddish word for Grandmother? Apparently so! Also, a character in the movie Forrest Gump made the name Bubba famous. Regardless of whether you are a Bubba, or not, have fun with it.
National Leave the Office Early Day (First Monday) – This day was created not to cause problems in the work place, but for those people who may have flex time at their offices who can figure out ways to be more productive and possibly leave the office early to enjoy a little more of the afternoon. For some people, this can be a good thing, for others . . . not so much. It’s more an exercise in good time management than anything else. So, if your boss is OK with it, see if you can organize your time in such a way as to give yourself some free space to leave early in the day! Too bad it lands on a Monday – this day on a Friday would be much better, but that’s just my personal opinion.
Yell “Fudge” at the Cobras in North America Day – There are just some celebrations that I look at them, scratch my head and wonder why? This one has a HUGE question mark floating over my head. I have looked everywhere and this is all I could find out about it . . . so take it with the same sense of “huh?” that I did. I am including it BECAUSE of how odd it is, and to show, that some folks will find any reason they possible can to celebrate. According to the sites I found, to keep poisonous cobra snakes out of North America, all citizens are asked to go outdoors at noon local time and yell “FUDGE!”. They are trying to say that fudge makes cobras gag, and the mere mention of it makes them “skedaddle”. Um . . . yeah. . . and one must wonder what special substance they were ingesting when they came up with this one. One way to celebrate this one may be to make some fudge. I’m all for keeping cobras away, and I like fudge, so it can’t be all bad

Food Celebration of the Day –
National Rocky Road Day – When I was little I remember going to Grandma’s house and though most of the time the goodies we had at her house were homemade, once in awhile she’d have Rocky Road Ice Cream or have a Rocky Road candy bar with our popcorn. There’s just something about it that makes me smile. As a grown up, I don’t eat Rocky Road often, actually I don’t think I’ve had it more than once since I was a child, but the memory of it just makes me happy. But where and when did this flavor combination start? Well, hoping to make folks smile during the Great Depression, William Dreyer (of Dreyer’s ice cream) jazzed up chocolate ice cream with nuts, marshmallows and bits of chocolate. Its popularity took off, and it is still a very popular flavor combination. You can have that lovely flavor in other treats too, and here are a few recipes from www. food.com to give you a few options.
Doesn’t a bit of Rocky Road sound delicious? Why yes it does! Please have some and enjoy it for me, while I dream of what it would be like! Yum! If you happen to leave work early, AND your name is Bubba, well, go buy a lottery ticket because you’ve won the jackpot for celebrations today! hahaha! Have a truly wonderful Monday! God Bless You and I’ll see you tomorrow!
